As you may know, the WSDC has established specific requirements to promote contest
integrity, which include avoidance of conflicts of interest. These requirements apply to all
contests held at City of Angels, including our non-WSDC competitions (All-American and Strictly
Swings).
Here is the rule: all conflicts of interest must be identified and avoided. A conflict of interest
occurs when any Judge/ Chief Judge / Secondary Chief Judge is judging:
– an immediate family member,
– current spouse / significant other,
– current dance partner (competitive and / or teaching)
– current business partner (e.g., co-owners, event co-directors, regular teaching partners)
As our teaching and judging staff this weekend, you are responsible for letting your Event
Director Valerie Valdez or Chief Judge Courtney Adair know what conflicts of interest you have.
For example, if you are competing in the All-American Jack & Jill, or any Strictly, your partner (in
all senses of the word) cannot be on your judging panel. If you plan to compete one or two
levels down in your secondary role, your partner is permitted to judge the opposite role in
preliminary rounds.
Please let us know ASAP what you plan to compete in and what conflicts of interest you have,
so that we can adjust the judging schedule to prevent any real or perceived bias.
Thank you so much, you are appreciated!
Valerie
